Tokyo

Tokyo is the home of our Commodity Trading and Risk Management Division, which oversees Mitsui's entire involvement in commodity derivative markets which include precious metals, base metals, energy and soft commodities. It is also the centre of Mitsui's commodity fund business. Our Japanese precious metal customer base spans across the jewellery, investor and industrial sectors.

From a trading perspective, the Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) is the region's primary terminal market and Mitsui is one of its most active traders. The Tokyo office has a team of over 10 traders making markets in OTC spot and forwards, complementing our Hong Kong team's activities in the region. Their activities on TOCOM provide a very valuable source of liquidity and discretion to our global customers.

Singapore

Mitsui Precious Metals have been offering physical and hedging services to Australian and New Zealand miners and consumers continually since the 1980s. We are proud of this heritage and the relationships created. Indeed, Mitsui & Co., our parent company began operating in Australia over 100 years ago and today has offices in the every State capital.

A company-wide regional restructure whereby our parent is centralising regional businesses in Singapore has made it logical to co-locate the MPM Australian desk with the greater regional commodity risk management team already well established here. Australia and Australian clients remain vitally important to MPM. The transition to Singapore hopes to maintain a seamless level of service and relationship. It brings the additional benefit of improved access to a broader product offering such as fuel hedging and emissions risk management.

Singapore has a tradition as an entrepot state and this culture is being harnessed to expand relationships across the region in precious metals mining and fabrication and to service regional investment flows with relationship customers. Mitsui's internationally acknowledged strengths in the Platinum group metals are being directed towards regional users of these specialist materials.
